New Skinnygirl Protein Shakes and Bars Review + Giveaway

Y’all.

Let talk about healthy snacks and shakes.

I have been representing Skinnygirl this past year and I was so excited to hear about the launch of their new protein shakes and bars.

Protein is absolutely essential to your daily diet.

With my busy lifestyle, I often find it hard to get enough protein at breakfast, lunch, or during my snacks and often find myself compensating for my lack of protein by trying to consume it all at dinner.

No bueno.

Luckily these new Skinnygirl protein shakes and bars have arrived to help us reap some of the benefits of added protein:

Metabolism: Protein speeds up your metabolism because the body uses more calories to break down protein compared to fat or carbohydrates.

Oxygen: Protein carries oxygen throughout our bodies.

Immunity: Protein provides antibodies to protect us from infections.

Maintain Healthy Weight: Protein helps you feel full and satisfied. Research suggests getting 30% of calories from protein may help curb appetite.

Muscle Health: Getting protein in our bodies within 30 minutes after exercise supports lean muscle growth and recovery.

So, how much protein do we really need.

To calculate your protein needs use this formula:

Weight (lb.) x .38 = Grams of protein needed/day

The recommended dietary allowance for protein is 46 grams/day for the average woman.

We can achieve this by getting at least 25-30 grams of protein from a total of 3 meals and 10-15 grams of protein from 1-2 snacks daily.

The truth is: We all snack A LOT, and we should, but let’s all make an effort to snack wisely. This allows us to avoid consuming our energy from sugary snacks or not even snacking at all which can make us feel tired in the middle of the day.

This is not fun.

WE NEED ENERGY. Good energy and good protein.

The Rich Chocolate Brownie flavor was ultra creamy, with the perfect chocolate flavor, not too intense and the perfect cold snack after a hot, humid run here in Texas. It literally tasted like I was drinking dessert…only healthy dessert 🙂

The Vanilla Bean Sundae held true to it’s name…it tastes just like vanilla bean ice cream. All you need is a cherry on top.

I was absolutely wowed by how good these protein shakes were.

Very impressive Skinnygirl.

Get Fit From Home: 5 Workout Sites that bring Fitness to your Living Room

Y’all.

Let’s talk about working out.

Oh, and I’m not talking about beating cake batter with a spatula.

I wish that counted.

As a personal trainer and someone who is completely enamored by the fitness world, I make exercise a daily part of my routine.

In fact, I cannot start my day without a good workout.

I usually run outside about 4 days a week.

However, on my “off” days I like to switch it up.

I don’t really have a necessity for a gym membership so my home is transformed into my own little work out space.

Plus, if you live in 99% humidity during the summer like I do, you need a break from the heat.

This past year I have upped my home workout game.

Not only is it convenient, but I love that I can workout, shower, and have my morning cup of coffee all under an hour.

Plus, it saves me some gas money driving to a gym location.

With that said, here are my top 5 favorite workout sites that allow you to workout in your living room.

#1. Tone It Up:

images

I can’t even begin to explain the success I have had with the Tone It Up program.  Tone It Up was started by Karena and Katrina, two real life best friends, personal trainers, business partners, and all around amazing fitness role models. What drew me to the Tone It Up program is these ladies themselves. Their approach to fitness is fun, fresh, energetic, bubbly, spirited, and all about empowering women to believe in themselves and get fit. Plus, their “look and feel like a beach babe” method actually will have you doing just that! The best thing about the Tone It Up program is that it is free to become apart of the Tone It Up community. My favorite part is the array of free fitness workouts that you can access at the drop of a hat. They have everything from yoga, to abs and arm routines, and total body workouts. My favorite workout to do is any of their High Intensity Interval Training and Cardio routines. They give me that high intensity workout that I need in a short amount of time. Check out their Hitty Bitty Bikini workout to get that energetic workout you need to make your day amazing! Feel free to check out the Tone It Up  fitness dvd’s if you want to make a greater commitment to this program after trying it out. Their dvd’s are amazing! No joke.

Jalapeno Cornbread & the Essential Paleo Cookbook

Happy Wednesday y’all!

Christmas is fast approaching.

I hope you have all of your Christmas shopping nearly finished.

If you’re like me, you have a big P for procrastination written across your forehead.

One thing I do have under control is my Christmas menu.

Bring on the pies, turkey, meatballs, pasta, stuffing, etc. etc.

Enough about me…check out this guest post from Louise at PaleoMagazine.com

I’m pretty sure you are going to love this recipe.  Louise also just released her new cookbook, which comes with some amazing recipes and a bunch of awesome bonuses – click here to check it out! Let’s just say I’m pretty stoked about all of the delicious recipes in her book, oh, and the recipe featured here.

Here’s Louise…

One time, before Jeremy (my husband) and I were Paleo, we were in Georgia visiting Jeremy’s mom. We decided to make cornbread that day, and we made a “Mexican” version that we found in a recipe online. It was the best cornbread we’d ever had.

So if you’re wondering why anybody made a Paleo Jalapeño Corn Bread Recipe, now you know.

We’ve made this recipe several times since then, mostly when we’re having someone over for dinner, and it’s pretty much always the dish that empties first.

If you are anything like me or Louise, there is always room for cornbread on the table. You should probably make it to go with your Christmas feat.

Period. End.

Who Keeps Me Healthy?

Hi, my name is Chelsy and I’m a health addict.

If ya didn’t notice.

So, I’m participating in the Who Keeps Me Healthy Campaign.

Well, obviously…I keep myself healthy, but I have a ton of people that I look up to who have helped me achieve my goals.

#1. My mother…seriously, this woman is in her 50’s, run’s marathons, and has some killer legs that look like they need to be on a 20 year old.

One thing that I love about my mom is that she knows how to live life to the fullest.

She has taught me a lot about balance, which includes fueling your body with the right foods, working out because it makes you feel good, not because you want to be skinny, and lastly, not being afraid to break out your best dance moves and have a glass of wine…or two 🙂

This woman will forever be my numero uno fitness idol.

She keeps my mind and body healthy.

Plus, she is my daily running partner…so, ya know, that counts for something 🙂

#2. My little seester.

Even though I am two years older than her, this chick has always been a model of health for me.

She has been an athlete since before she could walk and I spent a majority of my life cheering for her at her club soccer games.

She lives, eats, and breathes cycling, running, and anything that involves a ball and a net.

She also has celiac disease, so eating the correct foods to nourish her body and not have an allergic reaction is a feat in itself.

Like I said…she’s a champ.

#3. The Tone It Up Girls.

Karena and Katrina are pretty much amazing trainers who have take the fitness community by storm with their workouts, health tips, and passion for living an active lifestyle.

I pretty much think we are b.f.f.’s

They have inspired me to go outside of my comfort zone w/ workouts.

They have also taught me that a muscular physique is something to embrace, not something to be afraid of.

Plus, they also taught me not to be afraid to strut my bikini no matter what shape or size i am.

Boom…hero status!

#4. Last, but not least…Kris from Young Married Chic.

Kris has been someone in the blogging community that I have looked up to from day 1.

We both have struggled in the past w/ eating disorders and Kris has taught me one of the most important things ever…no one is perfect.

Every woman has her flaws.

Most importantly, you must embrace those flaws.

Kris embraces a fit lifestyle wholeheartedly, but at the same time, she leaves room for cake.

It’s all about balance, people.

UPDATE!

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!

I miss y’all!

Here is a lil’ update on my life.

I started my new job on Monday!

I’m a “Fit Break Instructor” for a corporate company here in Houston.

Basically, what I do is go to different offices within 3 buildings and conduct 10 minute fit/stretch breaks w/ employees.

It’s pretty awesome because it allows people who sit behind a computer screen all day, to really get a good stretch and move around.

Let’s do a lil’ re-cap on the past 3 days:

Day One: Ummmmm…is it going to be $25 everyday to park? Are you serious? Not happening. I need that money for pilates workouts and new shoes…duh. I love my co-workers, they are the shiz-nat. I love people w/ smiling faces and positive attitudes. I’m terrified of people staring at me while I teach them stretches. Please, please, talk!

Day Two: Are there really bosses that want to see you succeed? Um yes, there are! Their names are Joy and Sarah, and they are IT! You need these bosses. Get on my level! I’m feeling more comfortable w/ these routines. Anxiety is heightening but it will quell. Why is it rainy and cold outside? Seriously? Nightclub cardio kicked my bootay today! Who knew dancing could be such a workout? Who knew this girl could twerk? 😉 Is parking still $25?

Day Three: I’m hungry all the damn day! I eat everything! I did my first fit breaks today on my own…what was there to stress about? I GOT DIS! Hello $3 daily parking, I love you! Now I can get a puppy! Have I mentioned I love my coworkers are awesome? Yea, that. I found the cafeteria today…loaded salad for the win! Oh, and butternut squash and 3 coffees. CHEESUS. I hit a guy with my fist while stretching today. I don’t know if he actually felt it. The treck to my car was amazing. Sitting down was not amazing: see night club cardio reference on day 2.

That’s all! I should be back soon w/ some trash food for y’all!
