Summer Sun.

Y’all.

Summer is upon us.

I left work the other day, walked one block in the 90 degree heat, and was dripping in sweat by the time I reached my car.

It doesn’t really help when I have to wear all black to work either.

I mean, c’mon employers…this is texas, we should be able to wear neon in this weather.

Not to mention, I burned my leg sitting on the scorching hot leather seats in my car.

Oh, and of course, just when the heat hits…my air conditioner decides that it is going to take about 30 minutes to click on.

Oh.my.god. dripping sweat bullets is not fun.

Neither is getting stares from some homies on the side of the road just because I have my windows rolled down and am blasting Tim Mcgraw radio.

White girl problems right there.

I love, love, love the summer, but the Texas heat is a different kind of animal.

I want to sit by the pool all day w/ a good stack of trashy magazines, and a big pitcher of ice cold sangria.

I also want all of my snack, desserts, etc., etc. to be summer inspired.

Anything with poppy seeds reminds me of summer.

IMG_0101

Oh, and don’t let these muffins full you…no lemons here.

IMG_0104

Nope, I went crazy and made these ORANGE poppyseed muffins.

IMG_0106

Because I love to step outside of my comfort zone like that.

IMG_0107

I’m sure you were shocked!

IMG_0108

These muffins are slightly sweet with all the flavor of a zesty orange.

IMG_0109

Plus, those poppy seeds make for a great beady texture w/ eat bite.

IMG_0112

Oh, and they are made with stevia.

IMG_0113

Only because I’m awesome like that.

Tuesday Thoughts: Motivation

Happy Tuesday y’all!

Yesterday was the beginning of the Tone It Up Bikini Series Challenge.

Let me tell you…I was stoked.

Let me also say that in no way should you ever give up coffee the day before you start a new fitness routine.

I’m pretty much sure that I ran 3 miles at 5:30 a.m. Monday morning…in my sleep.

Yep, that’s me.

Even though I was exhausted, I was so excited to begin my new fitness challenge.

I just knew that I would feel 100% better after my run.

Oh, and did I ever!

10175144_616820461742578_588307321_s

I mean, just look at all that glistening.

I absolutely love to sweat.

You may think I’m nuts, but fitness motivates me to get out of bed every day.

That feel good feeling that I experience after a workout is enough to fuel my entire day.

It’s absolutely glorious.

I love a good challenge, especially one that motivates me to try new things.

Like giving up refined sugars.

I’ve been refined sugar free for about 2 weeks now and I have never felt better.

Once again, I love when I am pushed outside of my comfort zone.

This is a picture of what my summer 2014 will look like.

It’s all about my #createyoursummer plan for the Tone It Up Bikini Series.

This totally holds me accountable and reminds me to have fun and work towards completing everything on this list.

I also created a motivation board filled with quotes and pictures to keep me on my toes…constantly working toward my goals.

y

My goals for this challenge are to let loose, tone up, have fun, eat a well balanced diet, and listen to my body (which includes rest and workout days).

There is a difference between a lazy day and a recovery day.

So, WHAT MOTIVATES YOU to workout?

MANGIA!!!

Win the Morning with Belvita crunchy biscuits & Oikos Greek yogurt.

I have partnered with belVita and Dannon to help promote the belVita and Dannon partnership. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program, which includes writing about the promotion and product. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

Y’all…let’s talk breakfast.

You know it’s my favorite meal of the day.

For reaaaaalz.

Oh, and because it’s Monday, breakfast is extra important.

If your weeks are anything like mine…you look something like a chicken with it’s head cut off, running around trying to save the world.

Oh, and I do it all in workout pants.

Spill it…we all have those busy days where meals, including breakfast, aren’t even on our radar.

BUT BREAKFAST IS SOOO IMPORTANT.

A zip-loc back of cinnamon toast crunch is not a suitable breakfast, people!

So, how can we solve this problem making sure we eat a proper breakfast on the go?

Well, I’m going to tell you how this goes down.

I’m a Fitfluential ambassador, and because those lovely Fitfluential people are awesome, I was able to give these amazing products a try!

Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurt & Crunchy Belvita Breakfast Biscuits have teamed up in the Win the Morning campaign.

IMG_0117

If you know me I’m a huge fan of Greek yogurt.

Let me tell you…Dannon knows what they are doing.

I am a pure kind of gal, so naturally I chose the non-fat plain greek yogurt, which was subtly tart, and super thick and creamy…absolutely perfect.

The nutritional stats on the Greek yogurt are why I will ALWAYS be a fan.

It’s a great source of protein, with twice the amount as compared to low-fat yogurt.

Plus, with 0% fat, active cultures, and 80-130 calories per 5.3oz depending on the flavor, Dannon Oikos non-fat Greek yogurt is the perfect way to begin the day.

Check out all of these flavors…your breakfast will never be boring.

I paired it with the Cinnamon Brown Sugar Crunchy BelVita Breakfast Biscuits.

IMG_0094

This was my first time trying the biscuits and they were super crispy w/ a subtle sweetness.

Belvita biscuits are made with delicious ingredients and carefully baked to crisp perfection.

IMG_0093

Plus, they give you sustained energy all morning long, keeping me feeling full, satisfied, and on my toes at my job.

The biscuits come in 4 pack servings so they are easy to take on the go with you.

Each serving has 18-20 g of protein, 3g of fiber, and are a good source of B vitamins and iron.

Plus, they have a variety of flavors to choose from: Blueberry, Cinnamon Brown Sugar, Apple Cinnamon, Golden Oat, & Chocolate.

I couldn’t agree more with Laura Stacks, the Productivity Pro, who partnered with the campaign to offer some tips to WIN THE MORNING:

(1) The secret to a smooth, sane morning is doing as much as you can the night
before. Leave as little preparation as possible until the last minute – you’ll thank
yourself in the morning.

(2) Spend twenty minutes at the end of each day planning your to-do list. When you
download the next day’s activities beforehand, you can devote your morning to
enjoyment rather than stress.

Big-ups Laura, you rock!

How do you WIN THE MORNING? I would love to know your secrets!

505 Southwestern Giveaway!

Ummmmmmm…it’s pretty much been ages since I had a giveaway.

So, let’s have one.

The extremely nice folks over at 505 Southwestern contacted me with their new line of sauces/salsas.

Y’all…you know that I have a sauce/dip/anything that I can have on the side of my meal obsession.

So naturally, I freaked out when I opened up my package to find a box of these beauties:

unnamed

duh 😉

I mean, seriously…this is pretty much the stuff that I dream about.

I immediately jolted open the bottle of medium heat green chile sauce.

Oh.my.word.

This is unlike any jarred salsa I have ever had. For one, it’s super fresh and two, it’s ultra creamy.

The thing that I loved most about each sauce was the ingredient list. Wholesome, minimal, and natural, fresh ingredients.

Oh, and they are gluten-free w/ ZERO trans-fat.

SOLD.

But wait…they only use my favorite chiles of all time…Hatch Green Chiles from Hatch Valley in New Mexico.

Y’all…we need to show some love for this company.

This is what GREAT products are made of.

Plus, they are based out of Los Angeles, Ca and ya know I love me some California sunshine.

Here’s a bit of info. on each sauce:

505 Southwestern Roasted Green Chile:  Our Roasted Green Chiles are picked, roasted and then flash-frozen right after harvest so we can deliver that just-picked freshness in each jar. We use roasted green chile, garlic salt and just the right amount of lime juice as a preservative. This simple ingredient blend delivers great flavor and is commonly used as a condiment with tacos, enchiladas, burritos, salads, tuna, eggs, burgers and hotdogs.

505 Southwestern Green Chile Sauce (medium and hot): Our Green Chile Sauce is our own special recipe and we won’t divulge all our tricks. What we can say is that each kettle we produce has the right level of green chiles, tomatoes, onions, rice flour (as a gluten-free binder), lime juice, garlic powder and salt. This is one of our best-selling recipe and saves hours of  preparation for anyone that loves green chile sauce. It can also be used to sauté any protein for anyone that loves green chile sauce. It can be used to saute any protein for use in burritos, tacos, and quesadillas.

505 Southwestern Enchilada Sauce: Once again, we don’t follow the crowd. Instead of making our enchilada sauce with chile powder, we start with Hatch Valley red chile pods that deliver an intense rich flavor. We then add water, rice flour, lime juice, garlic cloves, oregano leaves and salt. Our Enchilada Red Chile Sauce is excellent when cooking with Mexican recipes including enchiladas and tamales or can be used to baste a chicken or steak. We guarantee that you can taste the difference in quality.

505 Southwestern Honey Chipotle Green Chile Salsa:  As with everything else in our line, our salsa is unique. Driven by the desire to be different, we take pride in using green chile and excluding onions from our Honey Chipotle Green Chile Salsa. Also included are tomatoes, water, honey, chipotle flakes, garlic powder, jalapeno, salt and lime juice. We then combine these ingredients with sweet honey and smoky chipotle to deliver an exceptional Southwestern flavor. Use our salsa with chips, cottage cheese, seafood, baked potatoes and more.

Soooooooo…I’m pretty sure you need these sauces/salsas…just saying.

Y’all…it’s that time again.

Secret Recipe Club time.

This month I was absolutely delighted that my secret blogger was Kate, the lovely lady behind Kate’s Kitchen.

Kate is a financial planner who loves to cook. Her husband is also a professional sous chef, so obviously, I am super jealous.

I’m sure they just have amazing food ALL THE TIME!

Kate, can you come help me with my taxes? I will totally bake you a cake and we can eat it over a nice cup of coffee.

I’m pretty sure in all the years that I have been a member of this awesome group of food bloggers, I have yet to make something that isn’t a dessert.

Well, Kate’s broad recipe index opened up my mind to giving something other that cookies, cake, and pie a chance.

Oh, but you know it was something that I absolutely adore.
